Old Buildings and New Uses

Exploring a new community can be an exciting and rewarding experience, especially when it comes to admiring the unique architecture. Every city has a unique flavor in terms of styles and designs, which can provide a great opportunity to appreciate the history and culture of the area. Walking around in a new community gives insight into local trends in urban development and offers an opportunity to explore how builders of the past incorporated their own style into each structure. From residential homes to commercial buildings, each community has something unique and fascinating to offer when it comes to its architectural highlights. Whether it is art deco from the 1920s or modern contemporary from today, admiring architecture can give visitors a much deeper appreciation for a place.

As part of the work with Belmont County Port Authority and the Appalachian Community Grant Program, we had the opportunity to visit Barnesville, Ohio eohio.com/last week to tour their downtown including the Bohandy Building and historic theatre. During the tour I couldn’t help but be amazed at the intricate masonry work as well as the pieces of history left behind.

The next few months will be focused on developing a winning development grant application to transform Belmont County for years to come.
