MADISON TOWNSHIP

COMPREHENSIVE PLAN & ZONING RESOLUTION

Established in 1812 as the first settlement in Licking County, Madison Township takes pride in its peaceful lifestyle within a safe community that cherishes its history, envisions a stable future, and strives to be an inviting place to call home. In an effort to guide future development policy decisions and avoid haphazard development that could jeopardize the best interest of its residents, Madison Township partnered with Neighborhood Strategies to develop a Comprehensive Plan that includes both short-term and long-term recommendations and implementation strategies, as well as a Zoning Resolution.

The Neighborhood Strategies team presented a Comprehensive Plan that advocates for development in Madison Township that balances growth with the preservation of historic and natural resources. It encourages connectivity between developments, incorporates open space conservation, and suggests identifying natural areas and needs for parks and recreation. It calls for developers to support necessary infrastructure, including surface and active transportation projects, while prioritizing walkability and collaboration on future improvements.

>>>  Updating zoning to regulate Madison township’s vision for future growth

Neighborhood Strategies designed a modernized zoning resolution to enhance public health, safety, and welfare and align with Madison Township’s Comprehensive Plan for future development. The resolution divides the unincorporated area into districts, including residential, agricultural, business, manufacturing, and conservation zones, with regulations for land use, development, and floodplain overlays. It also establishes zoning administrative procedures and duties, enforcement guidelines, and general development requirements. The Zoning Resolution will be presented for a vote in 2025 for adoption.
